Urdu Phonetic Keyboard Layout for FUTO Keyboard Is Now Available
We are happy to announce that the Urdu Phonetic Keyboard Layout for FUTO Keyboard is now released and available to use.
This layout is designed for Urdu users who want a clean, practical, and familiar way to type Urdu on Android using FUTO Keyboard. It brings Urdu phonetic typing support along with important InPage-style alternate characters, punctuation marks, Urdu digits, and long-press character access.
What Is This Keyboard Layout?
This is a custom Urdu keyboard layout made for FUTO Keyboard. It allows users to type Urdu using familiar phonetic key positions.
A normal tap gives the main Urdu letter, while Shift gives alternate Urdu or InPage-style characters. This makes the layout useful for both daily Urdu typing and more advanced Urdu text needs.
Key Highlights
The layout includes support for:
Urdu phonetic typing
Urdu digits on the number row
InPage-style alternate characters through Shift
Urdu and Arabic punctuation
Zabar, zer, pesh, shadda, sukoon, maddah, and hamza marks
Alternate Urdu letters
Religious and Quranic symbols
Long-press popups for additional characters
Main Urdu Keyboard Rows
The layout follows a simple and familiar Android keyboard structure.
The main Urdu letters are arranged across these rows:
Top row: ق، و، ع، ر، ت، ے، ئ، ی، ہ، پ
Middle row: ا، س، د، ف، گ، ح، ج، ک، ل
Bottom row: ز، ش، چ، ط، ب، ن، م
The number row uses Urdu digits by default:
۱ ۲ ۳ ۴ ۵ ۶ ۷ ۸ ۹ ۰
Shift and long-press options provide access to additional Urdu, Arabic, and InPage-style symbols.
Why This Layout Was Created
Many Urdu users are already comfortable with phonetic typing. Instead of learning a completely new layout, they prefer typing Urdu based on familiar English key sounds.
This layout was created to make Urdu typing easier inside FUTO Keyboard while still keeping access to advanced Urdu characters when needed.
Android keyboards have limited visible space compared to desktop keyboards, so extra characters are available through Shift and long press. This keeps the keyboard clean while still making important characters accessible.
How to Use
This Urdu keyboard layout has been pushed to the developers of FUTO Keyboard for review and possible inclusion in the official keyboard app.
If accepted, Urdu users may be able to use this layout directly inside FUTO Keyboard in the future without manually adding it as a custom layout. Until then, users can still download and use the layout manually through FUTO Keyboard’s custom layout system.
You can use this layout with FUTO Keyboard’s custom layout system with following basic steps:
Install FUTO Keyboard.
